UNDERSTANDING COACHING CERTIFICATIONS
WHAT RECOGNITION WILL I GAIN?
Coaching is an industry, and as such, it can be a challenge to navigate the various recognitions available, and what they mean. Whilst the Australian government, for example, has attempted to provide registered training status to coaching training (which this school has), it is not necessarily the benchmark for excellence. Coaching is a fluid modality that embraces many other fields, including positive psychology, neuroscience, neuro linguistic programming, and cognitive behavioural theory. Each coach develops their own style of coaching, drawing on the modalities that appeal to them the most, and suit their style of coaching. To accommodate this, the recognition a coach earns is best found in independent associations for coaching, such as the International Coach Guild (ICG) and the International Coach Federation (ICF). These associations have studied coaching specifically, and offer better, more precise guidance for coaches on what skills to develop, master, and demonstrate when coaching.
COACHING ACCREDITATIONS
INTERNATIONAL COACH GUILD (ICG) RECOGNITION
The ICG offers fifteen core competencies; within the competencies, there are levels of skill the coach develops, ranging from ‘some skill’ through to ‘strong competence’. This progress in competence occurs over the different levels of training with the us.
To be recognised by the ICG, the school and the courses must be recognised. The courses must provide a minimum of 70 hours total coaching training:

INTERNATIONAL COACHING FEDERATION (ICF) COACHING RECOGNITION - PORTFOLIO PATHWAY
The ICF offers twelve core competencies; there is only one level of competence.
To be recognised by the ICF, only the courses must be recognised. The courses must provide a minimum of 60 hours total coaching training:
