One of the pieces of feedback we hear often from coaches who are starting out is they are not sure what to do in the coaching sessions. This makes sense, as they are new to this, so guidance is essential. In this module, and over many classes, we walk you step-by-step through how to coach a client for their first twelve sessions (or more), so you can feel secure knowing you are not doing this alone.

The International Coach Guild was founded in 2014, built on fifteen core competenices (and 38 business modules, which we also teach you). These competencies cover everything from our attitude as a coach, the coaching session set up, the coaching space, being present, listening, questioning, facilitating change, and making progress with your client. This is a solid grounding in what works as a coach, and sets you up with a thorough understanding of the elements of successful coaching.

Probably one of the most important (and geeky) modules you receive, this module goes into the history of coaching, the different modalities it has drawn on, what theoretical underpinnings shape this program and its coaching training, and provides a rich exploration of why what we do works. We also go into some of the key language patterns to become aware of as a new coach. In the next program (Master Practitioner of Caoching Certification) we go into even more depth and unpack the neuroscience of coaching, as well positive psychology and how attachment theory can impact our coaching.

As part of your training we provide a (free) program that gives you the foundation skills of listening and coaching questions. Here, we go into more depth around thorough listening, being present to ourselves and our clients, as well as unpacking purpose questions, D.A.R.E. model questions (Design, Access, Realise, Evolve) and much more. these classes combined with the previous modules on the coaching session means you are thoroughly trained in one-on-one coaching.

Now we are going deeper into some of the most common and significant patterns in human behaviour that hold us back and lead us to settle for a life of discontent. It is not possible to emphasize enough the importance of being trained, familiar with, and able to know our emotional needs, our boundaries, and our emotions. This is what we call our Self-Esteem Triad (from Meta Dynamics™ methodologies, unique to ICI). We all have needs – they are universal – and they include feeling safe, connected, accepted, and understood, amongst others. Yet very few people are taught this, and even fewer live this. We show you, guide you, and help you ensure you know your needs, how they impact your decision-making and your relationships, and how to ensure your needs (they are not preferences) are met. And we also go into our emotions, and how to be self-accepting of them (essential for well-being), and our boundaries – those invisible lines that determine how we feel safe and connected. This is one of the most popular modules for our students.

We all have what are called ‘safe’ versus ‘risky’ problems in our lives – some problems are there to keep us away from our essential nature (safe), and some are there to help us know our essential nature (‘risky’). We are mostly raised to avoid knowing our essential nature, and are taught instead how to hide our authentic self. This module is designed to unpack this cultural norm, guide you to our authentic self, and at the same time provide you with several Meta Dynamics™ methodologies for helping your clients transform their lives in the most positive way.

The first part of a two part series (which continues into the Master Practitioner of Coaching Certification), this is the introduction to neuro linguistic programming that so many coaches value. We dive into how everything we do is a strategy, and that by understanding our strategy, we can learn why we get the results we have (whether they are what we want or not), and we can change our strategy if we want to change our results.

After nearly twenty years of helping people just like you go from no knowledge in coaching to having a thriving coaching practice, we know what works.
